BOATMAN: creating a South Baltic network of sustainable-tourism hubs connected to the maritime heritage theme

BOATMAN envisions a South Baltic network of sustainable tourism hubs focused on maritime heritage, fostering cross-border cooperation. These hubs will utilize existing infrastructure or require new development, showcasing typical regional boats and small tourist amenities maintained by public entities or NGOs. The project aims to enhance local human capital through participative planning with local activity groups (LAGs), including diverse stakeholders. Cross-border study tours will facilitate experience exchange.

Innovative cultural and tourism activities will be offered, such as crafts workshops (boat renovation, boat model making, wood processing, rope-making etc.), boatbuilding showcases, expert lectures, sailing tours, and events centered around boating. A common brand and joint marketing strategy will promote these activities, encouraging tourists to explore all hubs. Local communities will benefit from improved infrastructure, sustainable businesses, and engaging educational opportunities, enhancing regional livability.

Planned duration:
06.2024 - 05.2027

Total budget:
2 250 000 EUR

Partners:
Sweden: Västerviks Museum (LP), Västerviks Framåt AB,
Lithuania: Klaipėda University, Klaipeda District Tourism Information Center
Poland: Gdańsk Sports Centre, Association of Coastal Cities and Municipalities, Municipalities of Puck and Tolkmicko.
