Klaipeda University Rector’s team to renew with the start of the New Year

The beginning of the New Year brings changes in the team of Prof. Dr. Artūras Razbadauskas, the Rector of Klaipeda University (KU). From January 3, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rasa Grigolienė, who has many years of experience in the field of studies and has been the head of KU’s Office of Studies, has taken up the position of the Vice-Rector for Studies. Prof. Dr. Rita Vaičekauskaitė has been appointed Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS).

“We start the New Year with a clear vision and a strong team ready to deliver on the University’s key objectives, as set out in the new Statutes of the University approved at the end of 2024.  The new Statutes of the University is the result of our hard focused work, which further strengthens the academic freedom, the innovation potential, and the overall autonomy of the University,” says Prof. Dr. Artūras Razbadauskas, KU Rector.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. R. Grigolienė, the new Vice-Rector for Studies, is a graduate of KU, where she obtained her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in mechanical engineering. She defended her PhD thesis in Mathematics. She subsequently obtained a Master’s degree in Education Sciences from Vytautas Magnus University, and in 2020 she completed her Master’s degree in Innovation Management and Technology at KU. As the new Vice-Rector says, her interdisciplinary education and knowledge of different academic fields helps her in her work in the field of studies.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. R. Grigolienė started her career at KU’s Office of Studies and later taught at KU. The Vice-Rector has 20 years of experience as Deputy Director for Studies in other higher education institutions in Lithuania.

“Working in the field of studies is extremely interesting and meaningful. Every day brings new challenges and opportunities to grow. Working together with students, lecturers, and the administration, we can directly contribute to improving the quality of studies and student success, enable lifelong learning, and create a supportive and inspiring learning environment. I just need to join the Rector’s team and continue developing the work started by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aida Norvilienė, who held the position of Vice-Rector before me,” says Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rasa Grigolienė, Vice-Rector for Studies at KU.

The Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) of KU, Prof. Dr. Rita Vaičekauskaitė, was also approved with the start of the New Year. Until now, she has been serving as the Interim Dean.

Prof. Dr. Rita Vaičekauskaitė is also a graduate of KU. In 1998, she was awarded a Master of Social Sciences (Education Sciences) from Klaipėda University, and in 2005, R. Vaičekauskaitė defended her Social Science (Education Sciences) thesis at KU. In 2010, she was awarded the title of associate professor of education, and in 2021 – the title of professor of education.

Prof. Dr. R. Vaičekauskaitė has extensive administrative experience, having worked at KU Rector’s Office for the past 14 years: 2010-2014 – as Head of the Office of Science, 2014-2019 – as KU’s Vice-Rector for Science and Arts, and 2019-2023 – as Advisor to the Rector.

“Leadership is a big challenge when you are not ready for it, but it is also impossible to be fully prepared. That’s why leadership and oneself in leadership need to be rediscovered every time. I am delighted to continue working in the team of the Rector Prof. Dr. A. Razbadauskas, which is strong and ambitious. I look forward to bringing together the entire Faculty of Health Sciences of KU, which has a huge potential for growth, and build a cohesive team”, says Prof. Dr. R Vaičekauskaitė.
